Full Itinerary

DAY 1

Our guide will collect you from your accommodation at 06h00 in Durban and head south to Umkomaas. Upon arrival enjoy morning coffee or tea and get fitted with your wetsuit, fins and mask before receiving a briefing on safety and shark interaction.

Time to get up close with these apex predators. While at sea you will participate in a 30-60 minute shark cage dive (swimming with sharks is optional). After your dive you will return to base camp for a hot shower followed by a delicious lunch at The Waffle House in Margate.

Your next stop is a newly discovered 100 000 year old range of caves. These caves served as shelters for SAN or Bushman people who once occupied this area. The rock art depicted here offer insight into their beliefs and way of life. Take the tour via the network of steel cables that are fixed into the rock which leads to the caves (for your safety of course).

Check-in at Umzumbe Surf House and take an afternoon stroll on a secluded beach that has a private gate from the house. Tuck into dinner at a nearby restaurant before sitting around a fire under the stars listening to the sound of waves crashing onto the rocks nearby.

DAY 2

Bright and early the next morning your surf teacher will help you get accustomed to the mechanics and timing of the waves as well as teach you the skills to enjoy riding them. If you have surfed a few times before, this class will help refine your techniques and if you've never surfed before, this is your chance to experience the rush.ο»Ώ

Have a hot shower and breakfast before we make our way to Oribi Gorge. Next stop is Lake Eland Game Reserve which is home to the longest zip-line tour in Africa. Join the tour which consists of 14 slides starting at the top of the Oribi Gorge. The longest zip line is No. 6, which soars 680m and 300m high above the Gorge.

The views from that height are breathtaking and you are left feeling exhilarated. Another slide crosses over the lake and if you stretch your toes far enough you might just be able to touch the water! The final slide is through a tunnel and across a river completing 4.5 km. Around midday we will start making out way back to Durban, we will stop for lunch en route.

SURF TEACHERS: Your teachers are a combination of local and international surfers with more than 20 years of surfing and professional teaching experience. Their goal is to prioritise learners having fun along with their safety and comfort.

BUCKETLIST DESTINATION

Aliwal Shoal

Umkomaas, KwaZulu-Natal

The Aliwal Shoal is a rocky reef which is the remains of an ancient sand dune approx. 5 km off the coast of Umkomaas. The reef has diverse marine life, including large predators, and is popular as a recreational scuba diving destination. β€œThe Shoal” is known especially for its abundance of Grey nurse sharks (aka ragged tooth sharks or "raggies") between July & November when the sharks congregate there to mate.

Oribi Gorge & Lake Eland

Ugu District, KwaZulu-Natal

Oribi Gorge is a canyon in southern KwaZulu-Natal cut by the Mzimkulwana River and is approx. 400m deep, and almost 5 km wide (at its widest). Erosion rivers carved out nearly 30 km of spectacular kloofs and crags, covered with subtropical vegetation. The road through Oribi Gorge was built by Italian prisoners of war and derives its name from the oribi, a small antelope that lives in the gorges.
